Reality shows are getting more popular these days. But do you think they have the same essence and are as realistic as it appeared before?
The reality shows these days are booming. After the extensive lockdown, people have so much time to invest. They want something that goes on continuously. The reason people love reality is that they like to see drama and all these short-term shows are best for them. People don’t have time to watch something for several months or years. The essence in all the reality shows is no more there like before. There were times when there were known faces gracing reality shows. They knew that they are getting paid for doing dramas. But now, people are randomly doing anything.
What do you think about the present season of Bigg Boss? It’s receiving a mixed reaction from fans.
I actually don’t know what is happening in the Bigg Boss house. I have no clue at all. One forgets everyone when he/she is inside that house. All the pre-planning and stuff is just forgotten. A lot of contestants goes through the same once they enter the house. Their relationship dynamics change. I have also gone through the same. I am not finding it great. I feel the contestants are getting very personal and I am not liking this season.
One thing you like and dislike about your profession?
One thing I like about my profession is like I get to play so many characters in several shows. You can portray so many great characters. The best part is that I am getting to entertain people. I have so much creativity to portray such great characters and very few people are blessed with it.
The one thing I dislike is that if we play a certain type of character, people simply typecast us for it. The audiences don’t change their perception of you. For instance, the reality show contestants face the same issue. Actors are stereotyped in no time and I would want that this shouldn’t happen.
Do you have any alternate profession apart from acting? Or do you think about having one? If yes, what?
If you are in the acting field, it is very important to have a plan B because, after the pandemic, we have realized that we can’t fully depend on acting. Of course, I have a lot of things going on in my mind and I am working on it. I will definitely let everyone know once I establish my plan B. An actor never works continuously, there are constant breaks in their career. To keep oneself motivated during those breaks, an actor definitely needs to have one more profession just to keep going.
